There was no mistaking that a celebration was going on when Kincardine’s 4th annual Radiothon fundraiser at Trillium Court seniors’ residence in support of the local hospital exceeded all expectations.
More than $117,000 was raised, almost double that of 2017’s some $60,000 and exceeding the goal of $100,000. The money raised is to go toward the cost of the new installed digital X-ray machine which, with renovations to the site, is $777,000.
The event was a full day of activities at Trillium Court that included entertainment, a silent auction and Lions’ BBQ and major sponsor support by myFM radio, Bruce Telecom, Kincardine Lions Club and, of course, Trillium Court.
Throughout the morning, ‘the Jammers’ (given their name by Kincardine Times), performed a wide variety of musical selections until the Kincardine Celebration Singers took over entertaining in the afternoon.
According to myFM radio personality, Gourd Dougan, “There has been much more walk-in traffic with donations this year compared to last year and everyone, including companies, seem to be giving more.”
Calleigha McGuigan gave first-hand testimony of how important local health care is after the ATV she was riding on rolled over and broke her ‘growth’ plate in her leg. McGuigan said that there ‘wasn’t much of a wait’ at the hospital and she was glad “that it was close by”. In grade 4/5, she is athletic and loves surfing and soccer. Today, she is on crutches for a month but still found the time to bring in her donation, along with Mom Tabatha, for the fundraiser.
