Garbage bag tags in the Municipality of Kincardine will cost $3.50 as of Tuesday, March 7th, 2023. This comes after Council passed the Rates and Fees By-Law at their March 6th meeting.
The $1.00 per tag increase is set to generate an estimated $160,000 in additional revenue in 2023. Council approved the increase at their February 27th budget meeting.
Funding for the Municipality’s solid waste management program comes in part from a user-pay format. The bag tag increase, along with landfill disposal fees, help to offset approximately 78% of the program’s operating expenses. The general tax base covers the remaining 22%.
“It’s been some time since there’s been an increase to the cost of bag tags in the Municipality,” says Adam Weishar, Director of Infrastructure and Development.
“We continue to explore possibilities for improving our waste collection, recycling, and composting options. There are programs in place to help reduce the waste going to the curb in garbage bags.”
Those interested in options to help reduce their household waste can explore options online at www.kincardine.ca/waste. Links to locations for bag tag purchasing and the schedules for curb-side pick-up for garbage and blue box recycling are also available at this webpage.
All residential and commercial properties within the Municipality of Kincardine must purchase and place a bag tag on each bag of garbage placed at the curb for collection. Bags must be at the curb-side by 8:00 a.m. for pick-up.
