Lake Huron Fishing Club loses fish due to construction

In a media release today, October 25th, the Lake Huron Fishing Club (LHFC) lost 10,000 fish from its Kincardine brown trout hatchery after the construction crew working along Huron Terrace in Kincardine, struck a water main on the morning of October 15, 2021.

Adam Weishar, Director of Infrastructure and Development with the Municipality of Kincardine said, “The water main was not mapped and therefore was untraceable, which caused a loss of water supply for a period of time. The main was repaired and water supply restored but unfortunately fish were lost during this time.”

The Municipality of Kincardine met with members of the Club this week to extend apologies and identify ways to support the Lake Huron Fishing Club for the loss of fish and for their additional efforts to address the clean-up.

The consultant and the contractor involved with the construction, as well as the Municipality of Kincardine, have each agreed to make a $2,000 donation towards the hatchery, totalling $6,000.

Weishar, said, “Construction projects do impose impacts and risks, and while the incident is unfortunate, I am quite pleased that our consultant and constructor joined the Municipality to support the hatchery as we move forward.”
