MPs mark Isotope milestone at Bruce Nuclear

The Hon. Lisa Raitt, MP for Milton, and Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb toured the Bruce Power site recently to get a first-hand look at one of the workhorses of Ontario’s energy sector.

“It was a pleasure touring Bruce Power with my colleague Lisa Raitt. It was wonderful for Lisa to join me to discuss the numerous benefits Bruce Power delivers to the Canadian economy by providing affordable, clean, GHG free power while driving innovation in the health care sector by producing life-saving nuclear isotopes,” said Lobb. “I appreciate Lisa taking the time to tour this key infrastructure asset with me as we continue to promote the value of nuclear energy to Canadians.”

The tour provided an opportunity to mark an important isotope milestone, as Bruce B entered its planned maintenance inspection program, which included the installation of High Specific Cobalt rods into Unit 8. All four Bruce B units are now producing medical grade Cobalt-60 used to treat brain tumours.

“We are always proud to welcome elected officials into Bruce Power to share our story and it was great to do it as we were reaching such a significant milestone,” said James Scongack, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Operational Services.

The Honourable Lisa Raitt was first elected to the House of Commons in 2008 and was most recently re-elected to serve as the Member of Parliament for Milton. Following the 2019 Leadership Campaign she was appointed Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition.

Previously, she served as Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Labour and Minister of Transport.
