Nurse Practitioner joins Kincardine Family Health Team

The Kincardine Family Health Team and the Municipality of Kincardine are happy to announce that April Nicholls has accepted a full-time Nurse Practitioner position with the Kincardine Family Health Team starting in May 2023. Nicholls will join the existing Nurse Practitioner to operate and support the Kincardine Family Health Team’s programs and services, including the Same-Day Appointment Clinic.

Nicholls has a strong background in primary care and comes to us from a similar role with a Family Health Team offering a same-day access clinic. She has extensive experience serving geriatric populations, including a past role as a Nurse Practitioner in a Geriatric Emergency Medicine program. She has also provided Heart Failure Management through a specialist clinic.

Partnership with the Municipality of Kincardine to fund a portion of this Nurse Practitioner role has improved the Kincardine Family Health Team’s ability to address the healthcare needs of our community, by increasing capacity and access to team based primary care and same-day appointments.

Along with funding for the Nurse Practitioner role, municipal representatives have met with both the Minister of Health and the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. They took this opportunity to address the local issues of inequity of access to primary health care for our community.

Further advocacy for provincial investment in the health and well-being for rural areas continues, along with the exploration of collaborative opportunities with neighbouring communities.

Both the Kincardine Family Health Team and the Municipality of Kincardine extend a warm welcome to Nicholls as she joins a group of allied healthcare professionals providing our community with the highest level of primary health care services possible.
