OPP charge Saugeen First Nation male with multiple offences

On August 10, 2019, at 4:15 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Bruce County Paramedic Services were called to a residence at French Bay Road, Saugeen First Nation for a 24-year-old female with vital signs absent.

Early investigation has determined that the female had experienced an apparent opioid overdose and was administered Naloxone prior to the arrival of emergency responders. She was subsequently transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased. 

On August 15, 2019 at 7:20 p.m. Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit arrested and charged a 33 year old male of Saugeen First Nation with the following offences,

  • Traffick in Schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin), section 5(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Traffick in Schedule I substance – Methamphetamines (Crystal Meth), section 5(1) CDSA
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, section 733.1(1) Criminal Code of Canada

Members of the Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Gaynor of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) continue to thoroughly investigate this isolated incident, and no risks to public safety have been identified.

On August 19, 2019 at 11:55 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a high risk situation, involving a weapon, at an address at Bruce Road 8, South Bruce Peninsula.

OPP secured the area surrounding the residence and, as a result Bruce Road 8, between Bruce Road 14 and the Municipal Road, was closed to any traffic.

On August 20, 2019 at 6:59 a.m., a male at the residence was taken into custody by members of OPP Emergency Response Team.

Grey Bruce OPP officers and Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.


On August 19, 2019, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) South Bruce members responded to a report of a person who sustained serious injuries after falling from the back of a moving golf cart on Victoria Road in Point Clarke.

The victim had been sitting on the back of the golf cart, when he stood up and stepped off the cart while it was still in motion, causing him to fall and strike his head. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries as a result.

The victim was transported to hospital in Kincardine for initial treatment and then transferred to London for further medical intervention.
