Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) was approved for funding by the Ministry of Education to support a new Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS), under the 2019 – 2020 Capital Priorities Grant program. The ministry committed $26,450,989 in funding to build a school to replace the current Kincardine District Senior School.
The Capital Priorities Funding will support a new school with the on-the-ground capacity for 881 students. This funding will address existing school conditions and the expected future accommodation pressures for Grades 7-12 in the Kincardine area.
As progress continues on the replacement build for Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS), members of the public are invited to view and comment on the new facility’s design and provide feedback and/or submit questions through a dedicated consultation email address kdssdesignreview@bwdsb.on.ca until October 24th. Responses to commonly asked questions will be posted on the web page as necessary.
To save time and reduce costs, trustees approved a modified repeat design of the current John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover – an architecturally exceptional and modernized facility which has been warmly received by area students, staff, and families.
The KDSS replacement being funded by the Ministry of Education, will have capacity for 881 students. With a build location now selected, staff will be submitting for review and approval a site plan application to the Municipality of Kincardine early this winter.
