The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to five road fatalities over the Thanksgiving long weekend while conducting enforcement on highways and roads in support of the annual, national Operation Impact campaign. The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) utilized all available officers to participate in Operation Impact on Thanksgiving weekend from October 8, 2021 to October 11, 2021.
Operation Impact is a Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police-(CACP)-led traffic safety campaign that targets aggressive, distracted and alcohol/drug-impaired driving as well as seat belt non-compliance.
South Bruce OPP members charged 43 drivers during this important traffic safety initiative.
– 34 speeding tickets issued
– 1 stunt driving charge
– 6 other moving violations
– 2 impaired drivers were charged
South Bruce OPP officers attended 9 motor vehicle collisions during the holiday weekend. One crash resulted in non-life-threatening injuries and the other 8 were classified as property damage only.
The traffic safety campaign has ended, but the members of the South Bruce OPP will continue patrolling area roadways to deter risky driving choices that put the safety of others at risk.
South Bruce OPP officers attended nine motor vehicle collisions during the holiday weekend. One crash resulted in non-life-threatening injuries and the other eight were classified as property damage only.
The OPP laid 6,026 charges during the four-day traffic safety initiative that focused on aggressive drivers, motorists under the influence of alcohol/drugs, inattentive/distracted drivers and vehicle occupants who were not buckled up.
Aggressive driving led the list of offences, with 4,595 speeding charges and 109 racing/stunt driving charges.
Other offences resulted in 269 seatbelt, 102 impaired driving, and 94 distracted driving charges.
These latest fatal road collisions bring the number of fatalities on OPP-patrolled roads to 218.
