On August 27, 2020 at 1:25 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle entering the water at the marina along Station Beach road. Officers responded with members of the Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services and Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to find the vehicle was completely submerged.
Emergency responders recovered a vehicle and two people from the water.
William LUINSTRA, 86-years-old, of Strathroy and Rennie FEDDEMA, 82-years-old, of Strathroy were transported to a local hospital where they were both pronounced deceased.
Divers with the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) completed a search of the area.
The South Bruce OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services have entered into a death investigation.
Access to the main beach area was initially restricted to emergency workers, however it has since been reopened to the public.
