In celebration of Ontario’s Seniors Month in June, Bruce County is pleased to announce that Gateway Haven resident Kathy Broeckel has received an Ontario Senior of the Year award! This award is given by a municipality to recognize an outstanding senior who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural, or civic life of the community.
Kathy Broeckel has been a resident at Gateway Haven since February 2017. During her time at the home, she has been actively involved in Resident Council and has ensured that residents have a collective voice on the quality of life in the home. With Kathy’s leadership and support, Resident Council provides advice and recommendations to the home regarding what residents would like to see done to improve care and well-being.
“Gateway Haven is very appreciative of Kathy Broeckel’s voice and leadership. Her contributions to the home are so deserving of this honour,” said Director of Long Term Care & Senior Services Megan Garland.
“Thank you Kathy Broeckel for your valuable contributions to Gateway Haven’s care and quality of life. Your leadership and passion for the well-being of your fellow residents is remarkable and you are so deserving of this appreciation and recognition,” says Warden Janice Jackson.
