Gran Fondo Lake Huron cancelled for 2020

Due to the uncertainty in regards to timelines around the Covid-19 pandemic and the measures issued by government and health agencies to combat its spread, the Board of Directors of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation feel it is in the best interest of our participants and our community to cancel this year’s Gran Fondo Lake Huron event.

Planning to host a gathering of over 1,000 people in a time when public gatherings may still be banned for months to come would contradict the values of the Foundation, in which we work to support the health of our community, residents and visitors.
The Gran Fondo Lake Huron will return bigger, better and stronger in 2021. We look forward to welcoming you all back to enjoy this amazing day of riding, entertainment and fundraising while supporting the equipment needs of our local hospital!

We realize our riders, volunteers, sponsors and the community itself will be just as disappointed as we are with this news as this annual fundraiser was always such an incredible day of cycling, fun and community spirit.

The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation estimates to date that due to cancelled events from the impact of Covid that their annual revenue will be down over $320,000.

The Foundation is happy to announce that the following Gran Fondo sponsors have volunteered to donate their sponsorship funds to the Hospital Foundation despite the fact that the Gran Fondo has been cancelled. Each felt that this was a crucial time to support local healthcare in the face of this epidemic.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the following organizations for donating their sponsorship funds to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation despite this event being cancelled:

RBC  Laveer Engineering  Promation Nuclear  Shawcor Tetra Tech  Stow it  SNC Lavalin Nuvia The Brady Bunch

A special thank you as well to our media partner Bayshore Broadcasting and in kind sponsors, Martin’s Bicycle Shop, RCMG and the Town of Saugeen Shores.
